I still have a bone stock untouched tranny. ran out of money and now i'm thinking of a converter and and shift kit. the tranny has 87,000 on it and no problems as of now. i was thinking of a 9inch non lu probably 3200-3600 maybe smaller if anyone thinks it too high for a te-60 and a pts or ck shift (don't too much about either any feedback helpful) but i'm worried that the added strain might destroy any life left in the tranny. Should i just wait and buy a complete tranny when its time?
thanks for any feedback

can't a boy get an answer

Ok, I can't stand to set here and not see you get some attention. lol. From what you have listed as being on your car, I have one very important word for you,,,,,,BILLET. You may gain right now from going to a stall in the converter and shift kit, but you are going to start having the "weakest link syndrome" occuring on you. Meaning that the use of your trans will start showing from the additional stress these improvements will put on the basic trans components. Ask some of them more knowledgable board memebers for case histories. Their accounts can give you more insight than I ever could. When you get to that point, you will be wise to do the rebuilding with billet parts to maximize durability with dependability. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL OR CONSULT OUR WEB SITE. We are always here for any questions, thanks, Mark

i would just wait and redo the whole trans when it comes time...i am running a stock unmodified tranny at 90k miles on my mid to high 11 second combo and no shift kit...just a front mount tranny cooler...the only thing that really kills trannys is HEAT...cool the fluid and you will be ok up to a certain extent of course...

Shift kit OK

A well-desinged shift kit is more likely to lengthen the life of your trannie than shorten it. I've tried several and found PTS to be the best.

"anyone? any advice welcomed. someone must have something to say"

no one can say for sure what the chances are that something will go wrong if just changing the convertor and going racing.however if this is your course of action make sure you can deal with any downtime if something unfortunate should occur .usually the odds are against us ,i have seen this work, and i have seen it fail.the shift kit will improve shift quality without a doubt ,however ,if transmission oil wasnt serviced at regular intervals the addition of new oil and the strength of the virgin detergents suspended in the oil can eat right through the face of seasoned clutches destroying them in short order.as with anything else carefully thinking before acting is definately worth the effort.
