Car has been running great since the 86/87 ecm conversion exept for some knock and backfire when I get on the pedal no biggy have been trying to work on that one for a while. But today it died on me on the way home from work with a quarter tank of gas and it started to jump around at idle and back fire. I woud be excelerating from a dead stop and it would backfire and try and build boost. It died about three more times until I stopped for gas. After I filled up it started to run normal again. When I first upgraded the injectors it ran great but now it has been running into a lot of problems like the knock and backfire. Any one run into this problem or is my care cursed like I have suspected for years? I should mention that it went threw that quarter tank of gas very quickly if that helps. Not to mention my MPH is like 12/14. After I put the injectors in years ago I could run like 20 pounds of boost with no knock but the turbo would smoke so I set it down to 16. Now I put my foot on the gas and it knocks at like 10. I can't figure it out anymore. Last x-mas I did put a set of MSD 86/87 wires on it because the 10mm ones touched the downpipe. Could these be the problem?

I still have the 85MAF but the LS1 is sitting on the kitchen table until I get all the air intake pipes fitted. That might take awhile because I don't have a chance of a day off until the 29th and I'm on my 16th day of straight work.

Sounds like the MAF is probably bad, did you try the tap test? Do you have a scantool? Using the 85 MAF with the 87 coimputer can sometimes cause the car to be way too rich at WOT which will cause a rich backfire. Had that problem with old 84T.

Yea I would find an 87 MAF. The 85 MAF doesnt work well with the 87 ECM so Ive been told.

When I switched my ECM, I also switched the Coil pack and the MAF over, and it ran way better.

That might me another issue, is the module. 87 modules are different if that has not been switched. Caspers makes an adapter harness for the switch.

Hope this helps

Matt

I have the LS1 MAF just haven't put it on yet. The 86/87 coil pack and module was on of my first upgrades years ago and the day I did the ecm swap I put a high output one on.

I was pulling into the garage at work today and went to back into my spot and the car won't go in reverse so I guess I'm going to be replacing that. It's always one thing after the other with this car.
