I was given a set of American Racing 200s wheels a while back. They are a 2 piece, chrome, 5 spoke wheel similar to the old Torque-thrust's, except with fatter, flat-faced spokes. The entire wheel is chrome, but on the spokes, which are aluminum, the chrome is beginning to flake off. The outer rim(which I assume is steel) is still in wonderful shape. I grabbed a piece of the chrome that is flaking off the spokes, and under it is a copper, or bronze metal. What I would like to do is de-chrome the spokes, leaving the outer rim chrome, and paint everything else a gunmetal, or dark flat gray of some type(Or even the gray paint thats on my car). Similar to the old Torque-thrust wheels. The only problem is it almost looks like the metal under the chrome needs to be melted off.
Can anyone tell me if these wheels can be decromed and finished the way I want them?
Is there a way to do it myself?
I have nothing($) in the wheels and am planning on only using them for slicks at the track, but I just painted my car and dont want to use the wheels the way they are. Should I abandon the idea, give them to someone, and go buy new wheels?
SOMEBODY HELP!
Thanks!-John:confused:

Call a Plating or Chrome Shop. They can tell you what your options are, and how much it will cost. They'll probably want to see a wheel before quoting.

If you can get the chrome off, which is a pretty hard metal, you should be able to media blast the wheels down to the original metal.
