Just wondering if there was a code designation on the cowl plate telling if it was a GN and not a black ttype

You can tell from the trunk label for sure. I think the only thing you can tell from the cowl vin is whether its a factory turbo car.

know the we2 on the trunk and the 7 in the vin. But I mean the Cowl plate has other codes on it such as build date. Iam curious if any of those codes are Gn specific. I thought one was for the interior color and the code was for the Gn two tone interior making it a Gn not a ttype.

Some information... not complete

The 87 GN's would have 4GJ47 19L & 19U W11 for cowl tag clues. The first five are 87 (an M instead of J would be a LTD) - the 19's are black up & down - W11 GN interior maybe? And I think you need the VIN & RPO sticker to nail down the car tho.

Also I believe the tag would have roof info like CF5 for Astroroof and whatever the Ttop code is that I can't remember right now.

The way I understand it the cowl tag had body build info. Also I read somwhere that 84-86 codes were slightly different.

If turbofish or Kirban get on here they will be able to clarify. There is that other site:
Buick Turbo Regal Option Codes (Regular Production Options - RPO)

^ Exactly! Mine shows up to insurance as a 1985 Buick T-Type. ;)

I might be wrong but I remember the original owner telling me when he bought the car in 1985 that the Grand National package was an $800 dollar option to get the wheels black paint and interior.

I have my original 85 GN window sticker. The GN option-WE2 is a body option only. This is the black paint, badges, interior etc. Cost was $675. All the cars are Regal T-TYPES. There is no such thing as a Grand National model for 1985. For what this is worth. Brad

82C code for the GN in 1987 vs. 82B code on a WE4 and T's for a trim code.

Under the 19L paint code on the cowl tag left side.
