Well my alt belt was twisted so I loosened/fixed it, drove to my g/f house(10 min, all side roads <35mph) and when I got there I looked at the engine and the belt was twisted even worse and looked like it was going to rip in a few spots:mad:

so when I go home like 2 hrs later i start my car and hear a clunk from the engine...i figure the belt broke so I turn off all accesory b/c my alt is not running and my volt gauge is lit up....little did I know that the same pulley runs the fan and water pump:eek: (A/C is not hooked up). well i am an idiot and didnt look at the temp gauge and when i park i hear a bubbling sound and notice the temp was at 245:mad:   I KNOW I AM AN IDIOT!

but anyways...i replaced the PS and alt belts and now it runs like CRAP!!! wont idle and bogs like crazy at like 1/10th throttle....seems to miss or something....was in a rush so i parked it and took my beater out(thank god for the beater) but any ideas....kinda need it fised b4 sunday(GN Club meeting)....any ideas would help!!!! thanks

I hate to say it but most likely it's a headgasket due to warped heads. Hopefully not something worse. These things overheat extrememly fast with no pump, I know from when my impeller wheel stripped off the shaft. You have about 4-5 minutes of driving time maximum before the guage is pegged. You might want to look at the little things first. Maybe the extra heat hurt a plug or plugwire. It's worth a try but most likely not the problem. Also, without the alternator working the car will detonate at a much lower boost level.

Check the coolant in the radiator for oil. Also check the oil dipstick for signs of coolant. When I blew a gasket I had oil seeping from the back of the head and coolant was low with oil in it. The biggest sign was all the white smoke.

Hopefully you just melted a wire or something. Was the belt problem due to age of the belt?

no belt was and in but was twisting and i think it was on the wrong pulley and mis aligned is my guess....

i dont see how i could get any detonation(well i didnt b/c my scanmaster didnt show any) b/c I never hit any boost......could my h/g still have blown?

ill check the oil/coolant tomorrow.....crazy busy today.....looks like i wont be making my MAGNA meeting either:(

Yes, just like any car without a turbo. If you get the heads hot enough to warp them.

Check that all cylinders are sparking like he said previously. Then do a compression test on all cylinders. A compression test should give you a good idea if your head gasket it blown. Also loo around the block/head seam. You may see oil seeping out and check for oil in your coolant or vis versa. Good luck with it all. I'll have them say a prayer at church for you this morning. ;) Nathan

i finally found some time to look it over the other day and just looked at some stupid things, plug wires, checked the coolant and oil for and discoloration, stupid stuff like that b4 i did anything drastic. While messing around I found my MAF plug came out:rolleyes: i switched to the 87 MAF and im using the 84 plug....it fits in fine but does not click and lock in place:mad:

guess i cant complain tho, it was a free fix and took me 7 min to locate and fix it!
