Went to the track today along with every other man, woman and child in New Jersey. The track was jammed, tech inspection took forever, 3 people blew their engines all over the track. After 2 hours I got to make my first run. I knew it had to count because I didn't have time to wait 2 hours for a second run.
So I'm having issues with my ignition lock. It won't snap the whole way back from the crank position and it gets stuck. The only way to shut the car off is to unhook the ECM wire and then turn it to crank and goof around with it.
So I'm done with the tech inspection and the guy is like "Go!". The lock stuck, but there's a million people behind me. When the lock sticks it won't come out of park. I panicked and pulled it into drive anyway. Seemed okay.
Roll up to the starting line 2 hours later. Dropped it into 2nd and did my burnout. I wasn't watching the speedo, but I got lotsa smoke and rolled up to the line. The car almost stalled when I let up and I panicked thinking I would have to re-start it and have all that trouble at the line.
Tree counts down and I launch it. I spun pretty much 1/4 length of the track - tires didn't stick at all. At some point I realized that I wasn't going very fast. I instinctively moved the gear selector forward. It was in 2nd. It JUMPED forward. Turns out the burnout must've been in FIRST. I must've goofed up the rod adjustment because when it's showing "N" it's actually in drive. First is where 2nd is, etc.
The car runs better than it ever has - I'm happy about that. Ran a 12.5 @ 111 (2.0 60' on Hoosiers!) despite all the screw-ups. I didn't even remember to start the DirectScan.
So, I'm really happy with the way it runs this time out. New parts are a PT-61, Bigmouth cold air kit, Turbotweak 100 octane chip and a 3500 9x11 converter. I had turned the boost back to about 20 PSI and cut the timing at WOT back 2 degrees just to be safe. Got no knock at all (100 octane unleaded). If I could get my act together it might actually turn in some mid-11 timeslips.
