Uh, oh. Started the car with the new TA-49 I just bolted on there, and it's smoking out the exhaust like a hog. No oil leaks, everything in the engine was put back as it should be. The smoke looks grey, and doesn't really have much of an odor to it. It doesn't smell like unburnt fuel. Anyone have any ideas? What do I need to look for on my scan master. I noticed the fuel pressure was wandering all over the place as I drove it down the road at 35mph, from 15-115psi, or so. I don't recall it doing that before. Seems to me it always sat rock solid at 48psi.

Would it do that if I had the wastegate puck partially open? I adjusted the adjustable rod to the same length as the one on the stock turbo, just to get things going on the car, and would adjust the boost pressure from there.

Mod's in the sig. The chip in it is a red 93 right now. I haven't put the extender chip in yet. Had that lined up for next weekend.

my car is smoking when i put on my new ta-49 from limited engineering have to return it

Oh, great. My turbo is from Limit Engineering also. Someone please tell me it's something simple.

How long have you run it for ?

If you run it for a while (10mins maybe) does the smoke taper off and go away?

Also, if you can run it with the MAF pipe off, can you see if the compressor wheel spins even at idle ?

Depending on the colour of the smoke, it may be oil getting into the exhaust through the exhaust turbine wheel.

With a brand new turbo this "sometimes" happens and really just needs to be broken-in so that the oil seal ring on the exhaust shaft can seat properly, but the key thing there is that the turbo wheels need to spin at all times......

If running it doesn't cure it or there is a ridiculous amount of smoke (ie mosquito fogger) then it will need to go back to be checked.

Ok, went out today and got into the boost a couple times, and the smoke was coming out of the exhaust less and less, until the point where it wasn't smoking at all anymore. Good news. Thanks for the help and suggestions!

That's great news, I am glad you solved it too.

As I mentioned some turbos just need a breaking in.

If you get a new turbo and it smokes, it's worth it to try building some boost with it and see if the problem goes away.

I mean, if it doesn't fix it, then you just send it back, which is what you were going to do anyway right ?

Enough ranting, GO BURN SOME TIRES !!!!
