I just picked up a set of '85 GN rims for my turbo-t. :D Turbo Dave from Lynnwood gave me a great deal. I need two more center caps and I will be set. Only question is, where the center caps clip on there is a ring around the rim that looks like it helps center the center caps. I have one spare rim and one of the rims I was going to run that both look like somebody tried to use a screwdriver to get the center caps off and broke part of the lip off as well. Is this a problem? Does anybody else with the factory aluminum rims have this problem as well? I was going to try to get two more center caps but I don't want to waste the money if they will not work. I can get a picture of what I'm talking about if this doesn't make sense. I would need somebody to host the picture or post it for me though. :( I was also thinking about trying to get this fixed, but if I can run the center caps without a problem, I will. Thanks, Gabe

Turbo Bill not Turbo Dave!!!

Sorry Bill! I got a good deal on the rims form TurboBill, not Turbo Dave. On a different note... anybody know about the rims? Somebody has to have had this problem at one time or another? -Gabe

Im pretty sure I know what you're talking about, because I think Ive got the same problem. A couple years ago when I got my tires changed, they broke part of the lip that the center cap connects too. For a while I just used duct tape to hold the cap on.....than one day the cap flew off while I was driving....and Ive been missing a cap ever since. I thought about trying to weld in the gap....but I dont know how well that will work with the quality of the aluminum. The center cap unfortunately wont stay on the rim without that lip intact.

Maybe this will help?

If you look at this picture form gbodyparts.com; the rim on the right has the lip on the top that I am talking about, the rim on the left does not. Half of the lip is gone on two of my 5 rims, can I still use the stock center caps with these rims? Can you use center caps with the rim on the left? I don't want to waste a good center cap if it is just going to fly off... Thank, Gabe

Ya.....that lip is what partially broke on my rim, and made it so the center cap didnt stay on. Im gonna have to say that without that lip the cap isnt gonna stay on.

Ok, thanks.

I guess I may have to try to find one more good rim? I may try to make something out of some cold weld or maybe even JB weld to try to fix it for now. Thanks for the info. -Gabe

jb weld

Does wonders... I would try it on the spare, then sand an paint. :)
