I just bought a new art carr tranny pan and had it modded to fit the larger filter. My question is what to do about the dipstick as the new pan is much larger and thus not calibrated to the old stick?
mmmm, I may be way off here, but the dipstick should be fine. The fluid levels should be the same for measurement purposes with the dipstick for both pans. There will just be more fluid pooling below with the art carr pan than before.
If it didn't come modded, you will need to mill the "pads" that support the stock filter. Otherwise it won't clear when you go to bolt it up. I bought mine from DRW Transmissions and it came modded.
Use your stock dip stick, you will have just more fluid in the pan ,but you still need to have the same level
Since the pan is aluminum, buy some small stick magnets (Ace Hardware) and attach them to the bottom of the 700-R4 filter since it's metal ... The pan might have a small magnet on the drain plug ,but it 's not real powerful .....
Wow, a unanimous opinion. Stock will be perfect as far as the dipstick is concerned. And you also will be doing yourself a favor by using the 700 filter and have it about 3/4 to 1 inch from the bottom. Use spacers in the mount of the filter to maintain that depth. ,,,,,,,,Mark
We don't Jimmy, but you should be able to find them at most hardware stores I would imagine. Use locking nuts and put a spot of loctite on them as an added precaution.
I have the same pan and I didn't shave the pads all the down, left about 3/16 or so sticking up to help hold the filter up . I shaved some off , checked it to see if the pan would go up.. Did this couple of times so the pan would go up level . The stick magnets actually did the same thing since they were on the bottom.. It works OK now Alan
