Just put regular plugs in my 01 Bonneville and now it runs great, was missing bad before the plug change, but now the service engine soon light is on?

Can it be because I did not use the fancy plugs?

It came on after I punched it when cold - it knocked bad like pre-ignition, but it has done this before if I get on it when cold - maybe this problem has finally come to a head???

Is there an easy way to pull the codes from this car without a scan tool?

Thanks.

got the battery disconnected right now - maybe it will go away

If pulling the battery does not clear the SES light. Go to any autozone and they can scan the car for you. Also this is done for free.

yeah go to Advance or Autozone they'll do it for free. If it's a general code they can tell you what the problem is and if it's a manufature code just ask them if you can have the prinout with the code number on it. Then just look it up online and find your problem.

OBDII systems will not clear codes by disconnecting the battery. You will need a OBDII scan tool to reset the codes. Some places will not clear the codes. I purchased a OBDII code reader for 49.00. I can read, it tells me the code I can clear them. Seems to be great.

$49!!!!! sweet, what kind is it? and where can I get one?

After the GF drove it for about 45 minutes the light went off but it would be nice to have such a tool. the damn car will not go to OD and a GM mechanic said it might be electric not mechanical - maybe a scan tool will tell???
