I normally don't paint a broad opinion based on the mistakes of a handful of peeps, but...
Further evidence that the auto motive unions are no longer needed. The workers are obviously over protected at this point. Plenty of industries including the one I'm in are doing just fine without unions. Chaps my hide that the union is stepping in to protect these guys. If I did that on my job....I'd be fired in a heart beat....and it would be deserved...
Auto industry can't cost reduce or streamline the way other industries do because even when they close a plant, the workers go into a worker pool where they draw near full salary until the manufacturer buys their contract out, or finds another job for them....they have no incentive to go find a new job on their own so they sit there ...read magazines...watch the tube and play cards for 8 hours a day...
The Unions have strangled the American auto industry and airline industry to a slow grind. The teachers union is doing a number on public education...the list goes on and on.
Should be just like it is on any non-union job. If you do good work and earn your pay....you keep your job. If the company needs to downsize to stay afloat...sorry...here's your severance package for the time you put in, now go find another job. We'll gladly hire you back when things improve.
Unions also shouldn't be able to contribute to political campaigns. It's a conflict of interests and abuse of power. They take money out of peoples pockets (part of Union dues) to put idiots like Jerry Brown and Baboon Boxer into office
I think the only place for unions in this day and age is the mining industry.
Just my opinion...hope no Union folks are offended by my opinion.
Thanks for listening.
