I just got my new trans from CK performance installed. I have a permanant pressure gauge installed in my car. This trans is acting very differently than my last one. I am using the same TV made easy brackets.

In the old trans the pressure would rise immediatly at even the slightest touch of the throttle, in every gear. Idle pressure was around 75 psi.

The new trans, when in park and you hit the gas, it barely rises. Reverse the pressure goes up and it seems to work correctly. N is the same as park. OD is sits at around 70 psi and doesn't move no matter what. If you are driving the car it does not affect the pressure on the gauge when you press on the gas. Acts the same in D at OD. In 1st and 2nd gear the pressure goes up to around 200 psi and slightly reacts to pedal movement.

I didn't drive it more than a few blocks, as I'm not sure if this is right. It does seem to shift normally in the short, slow distances I drove, and when I manually downshift into 1 or 2 it holds the gear.

Am I missing something? What is the pressure suppose to do on these modified transmissions?

I would just call Chris, but it's getting late in NY, so I wanted to wait until tomorrow to do that. What kind of pressures are others seeing?

Thanks.

I would shoot for about these pressures:D

No TV / Full TV
P 90 275
R 230 230
N 90 275
4 90 275
3 90 275
2 250 250
1 250 250

Went back out to try and figure it out. The pressures are fine at full TV, I did verify when I put it in that when the pedal is to the floor, the tv plunger is all the way in.

I adjusted back the tv cable to where it brought idle pressures up to 90 psi, and then the pressure comes up with throttle like it is working correctly. Went out for a drive and it works like it should and the pressure was doing what it should. But after punching it hard, the TV extended again, and it was back to low pressure.

I tried resetting it again in the garage, but it does the same thing, once you go to full throttle it self adjusts and the idle pressure drops again.

It is as if the line could use about 3/8" less travel back to idle. I remember having this same issue with the first 200-4r I had, and the builder had me put some washers inbetween the tv valve plunger and the spring to put more pressure on the spring at rest. Is this the only fix? I don't want to drop the pan again if I don't have to. Here is a pic of the linkage.

Don't you have to use BTO's TV spring to prevent this from happening? Or is that a Rossler setup?

From BTO's site
If you have a used transmission or one rebuilt by another company, you will need to install our custom length spring into the valve body. This is not an optional step. If you fail to install our spring you will try to run this transmission in an SSS (Short Spring Syndrome) condition which can quickly prove fatal to your transmissions frictions. This is a very simple easy installation but MUST be done!

Hopefully that will fix it up.

Well, I replaced the spring. There was about 1/4" differenct in length. I also had 4 washers in my old valve body, with the longer BTO spring. I only put one washer in with the spring this time.

Only ran the car for a tiny bit, getting pretty late for tonight. It looked like it was better, but not 100% yet. I may have to add a couple more washers to get it corrected. Sure sucks.

I ended up solving the problem. I added 3 shims (washers) to the tv plunger to make the spring longer. It was just enough to give me the proper pressure rises and everything is working great.

I also talked to Chris on the phone today and he was a big help and provided good customer service.

Sounds like this is a common issue with the BTO kit. I may switch to the Holley brackets at some point, but I was pressed for time and everything is working well.
