As you can tell I’m on a roll and finally starting to think about fixing the stage car. Hey, track opens up in less than 2 months!!!

What type of cleaning fluid should I use to clean transmission parts and the case? Naturally something that is aluminum safe. I’ve heard carburetor or brake fluid but that’s tough if I want to dunk parts like the valve body and case. Can I use Simple Green provided I rise with water and dry with compressed air? What about a light mixture of white vinegar? I use White Vinegar to clean and restore artifacts so that’s where that idea came from. I think long ago when I was young and we use to rebuild our own transmissions we use to use Kerosene.

Any suggestions are appreciated,

I wouldn't hesitate to use Simple Green and water on everything except the valve body. For that, use solvent like Varsol or carb. cleaner. That's because there's too many places the water can hide in there unless it was 100% disassembled. A pressure washer will work well on the exterior of the case if it's got excess grime on it.

Thanks! Valve body will definitely be apart for this. If you are going to clean it out, might as well do it correct. I left something out, what I was planning to do was clean it with simple green as a cleaner, rinse with water then spray down with carb cleaner, then dry with compressed air.

I use simple green..or ...oderless mineral spirits in a big bucket!...brake parts cleaner...and a ultra sonic bath for the v-body...later joe

I'd pour a couple of $0.79 bottles of rubbing alcohol (91% if available, 70% is okay) over it between the last water rinse and the carb cleaner. That will get rid of most of the water, and what liquid is left behind should be mostly alcohol with a little water so it will dissolve in the carb cleaner. You always want to change solvents in steps where each new one dissolves the old one. Do it over a bowl, and if the alcohol runs off clean then scoop it up and pour it back over the valve body til you're bored, or just fill the bowl and dunk the valve body and stir :-).

Isopropyl alcohol, nice touch! Never thought of that. Thanks!

My local tranny shop has been cleaning my cases in an Atec
Trans-Tool pressure washer for only $5.00 for over 10 years!
I wonder if they are making a profit from me?:D BTW, It does
a great job.
