FWIW & IMHO:
For washing the car where you want to remove as much of the old wax as possible use a liquid dish soap like dawn or palmolive.
For washing the car when you do not want to remove the existing wax that is on the car use a good, high quality car wash/shampoo.
For waxing the car, I cannot reccommend any as I have not found any that I like. I use a glaze made by Shoguard, but any good glaze made by a quality manufacturer should suffice. Keep in mind that glaze polishes the surface, and will remove minor swirl marks, minor scratches, and old wax, but offers no protection as a good wax or polish does.

After trying most products out there, I prefer Zaino. Initially it is alot of work but in the end, it is the easiest to work with and best durability.

Hey Wells, what do recommend for a good glaze. My '86 GN has great, deep paint, but has swirls. The swirls aren't deep, but definately are apparent. I currently use the 3M glaze, but am open to anything that might be a better product. Please advise....Thanks

no swirls here

Here's the answer you guy's have been waiting for about your swirls in your black paint. I normally don't tell anyone how to do it and what to use. But I will let you in on a secret only here. Go to a automotive paint shop and get a 3m foam polishing pad for your buffer and a bottle of 3m's "perfect it" polishing glaze. When you buy it get the grey color kind not the white. The bottle is about 35-40 dollars in the store but it works the best. Don't settle for miguires or any thing else the store tries to sell you. Believe me I used to restore and build show cars for a living at my fathers body shop for twelve years.

I hate to admit my ignorance here, but i am new to the "glaze"
process, and the stuff that I am using now is the only glaze that I have tried/used.
I have done my '87 Turbo Regal 2 times by hand and it just
keeps getting better and better.
I will say this much though. I am tired of buying products that don't perform as advertised and having a garage full of washes/waxes/glazes and no nice car to show for it.
So many scams out there on products these days.
Sorry that I could not help more.

Thanks for the reply Wells...I appreciate your honesty. I am willing to try both of the products you and GNS-FLY have talked about. Can you tell me where you get this Shoguard stuff at?...like possibly a nation wide dealer? And GNS-FLY, where specifically can I get this 3M Perfect It glaze stuff from? I was really impressed with the 3M stuff I have now, but it's not the same as what you are talking about. Also, is it OK to assume that the more applications I put on the car, the better the car will begin to look?......

I'm late for work, but as soon as I get in from work this afternoon, I will post hes addy & phone No.

Let me know if you like this, & how it compares to other glazes.
Also, Whiplash306: sent you an e-mail.

Anyone heard about a product called BOM .A guy told me about it and he claimed it to be the best stuff ever invented.

Black fire wax You want a good "Black"wax this is it. I tried it last year and yes it's expensive but you don't use a lot and the finish is sweet! Just my observation.

Ziano Bros. The best I have tried! Still gets darker and darker with every application!Ziano Bros.

Meguiars Tech Wax

I just used this new wax on a red car & my black GN. Best that I have ever used (I haven't used Zaino). Gives a deep gloss & covers the swirls, just like advertised. Cost $15 for an 18 oz bottle. :)

After driving my car 500 or 600 miles a week, I wash it whether it needs it, or not. :p I get up the energy to wax it about once a month.

waxin

I have used Car Brite's PHAZE GLAZE cleaner polish then followed up with Meguire's 26 yellow carnuba. I use an orbital power buffer for application and removal. Decided to try MEGUIRE'S CLASSIC GOLD. Wow, the shine is truly awesome! I thought it was easy to use and the results ar beyond anything I have used in the past. :D

Once you get those swirl marks out I recommend trying the Mr Clean self dry car wash. I polished and waxed the car and have been using the self dry stuff, the swirl marks and fine scractches I use to get from the chamois are not back yet. I was very sceptical about this stuff but I am amazed at how well it works, haven't dried the car once this year and it still looks like it was just waxed
