need help to get to fix the code 31 problem in my gn. just driving down the road at 45 mph, no hammering, lite comes on. I'm new at this car so pardon my basic questions. Is it correct that the waste gate solenoid is located on the driver side valve cover? some of the drawings i look at call the actuator on the turbo housing the solenoid????. Is it OK to apply 12 vdc to the sol on the valve cover to trouble shoot this problem
Any ideas on what may be going on here??

Just had the turbo off the motor to replace injectors(had the 31 problem prior ) & replaced all the hoses & made sure the y connector was correct

Also putting in a vdo boost gage does it go in the vacc line from the sol to tha actuator??

Thanx for any help

Check to see if your ecm sol fuse is blown before you waste cash on a solonoid. If the fuse is blown the A/C won't work also for a clue. If its blown then come back and let us know and we'll go from there.

code 31

On my 87 T a code 31 was caused by a blown fuse labeled
ECM-SOL. I am not near my cars so I can't see if my 84 has
the same fuse.

bye, Ed

code 31 problems

thanx for the quick reply's
a/c NOT working....planned to look at this later
a/c fuse good... tested by meter

this is what i found today
ignition on,,12 v NOT present at waste gate sol, canister purge sol, D4 (Pwr for ecm/sol to wastegate,EGR & can PNK/ BLK) connection at bulkhead

looks like a/c & this code 31 are related??

ok

Fixed it. Found no ignition voltage to the wastegate sol.
Problem was at the bulkhead connector on firewall. The wire was broken at the connector at H 4. Found out about new fun with the black weather proof grease. Also discovered the blue locking clip that holds the connectors in place
Good part is that no more code 31

Ed,, by the way I live in the Buffalo area. Ron Turch lives about 5 mi from me.
I bought his Tomco #30 which I just put in. Maybe I'll see you at one of the meetings.

no

DO NOT get your boost signal off any of the lines @ the boost solenoid or wastegate. Behind the fuel pressure reg. is a plugged 1/8 in pipe port. That is the perfect place to get it. @ that point you will be reading what your intake is charged with.

Glad you were able to find it. I'm at most the club events
so I'm sure we'll meet soon. :)

bye, Ed
