If you want one for a project car, I say go for it. On the other hand if you want one for a daily driver, I'd say it's probably not the best car for you. They aren't all that unreliable, but they do require a good bit of maintenance, most people run synthetic oil, you need to run super unleaded fuel, the Powermaster brakes are quirky at best and remember, you are driving a 20 year old car. The payback is awesome though, the first time you nail the gas and are thrown back into your seat, you will forgive the car for it's shortcomings!! You REALLY do need to find someone to take you for a short ride in one, it only takes about 4 seconds to fall in love!

As a daily driver, I would pass on a TR. As a fun weekend car with an occasional trip to the track, however, they rock. I am mechanically DE-clined but I can still do most of my own work. Tuning/adjusting the air/fuel mixture by looking at a scan-tool and increasing or decreasing fuel pressure and boost is much easier and cleaner than reading plugs and changing jets in a carb. How many "old school" muscle cars do you see driven to the track that lay down 11 second passes?

I appreciate all you guys chiming in, With 322 views, (at the time of this post) I cannot belive nobody has attempted to shy me away from these things. Except for WELLS, wich I'm guessing has an 8 second GN stashed somewhere. Some one has to have some bad news out there. GN lurkers post it up!

Why does someone have to have some bad news out there?
Why and what would you want to hear from "GN lurkers"?
Could be a bad "Assumption" on my part, but I would think that most Gn lurkers don't own GNs, so why and what would you want to hear from them?
If you are really looking for some GN lurkers to fill you in on GN lore and GN bad news, then you should be on the non GN boards.
For somebody that is a lurker and new to the board you sure do the GN walk and talk very well. Most new to the darkside sport, don't remember the vss & maf acroynms very well like you did, but they know basically part of the names or terms. Because these are not carburated but are injected and computerized cars, most people don't realize that the troubleshooting can be more quantitive and troublesome that carburated cars, but you seemed to be up on that also. No disrespect intended, but I think that you are just too knowledge about these cars to be asking the questions that you are asking.
All that is just a guess on my part, though. I think that you are a "incognito"

Why I like driving a Turbo Buick:

-I can drive to the track (or anywhere else for that matter) with the A/C on. Race, then drive back home with the A/C on.

-The car is smooth and quiet, in comparison to an old school car. No fumes, excessive vibration, exhaust rumble, etc..

-I can drive on the freeway in 4th gear @ 60 MPH with the converter locked and cruising at only 1800 RPM.

-I can carry 5 adults plus some luggage with ease.

-If I do a lot of highway driving, it's still only a V-6, so I can expect around 20 MPG!

-My car has power everything (steering, brakes, locks, windows, trunk release, drivers seat), and even cruise control!

The BEST part, is that I have, and can do ALL of the above, and still blow away 99% of the cars on the street.




Did I mention that my car still has A/C?
