Folks,

Please don't send the vigilanties after me, but I need help. I had a program that accidently got deleted, the program contained digital photos of my 3 grand children oldest 9 years to the youngest 5 years the images were taken of all 3 just a few minutes from their being born to their birthdays, Christmas, Halloween, first day at school, etc...probably 3-400 plus images. It is one of my most treasured possessions, if not the most.

I'm not so sure if its possible to retrive deleted images from a hard drive, it something I just recently heard about-but if so I sure will appreciate it if someone would PLEASE tell me where I can send the hard drive to get the images recovered/retrived? I sure would be grateful.

Thanks,
Jerry

What you want to do is run a program called Norton Utilities, a module called "Undelete" within the program. Do NOT install that program to your hard drive, and you should not install anything on the drive right now, because you can use up your disk space that has the files you wish to un-delete.

Hope this helps,
John

Not trying to hijack the thread, but can that work on flash media?

You can usually retrieve a file that has been deleted the "normal" way, thru Windows. But, if the file had been overwritten, forget it. In Windows environment, when a file is deleted, the file location is removed from the FAT tables, but there's a backup FAT table that Norton Utilities accesses to restore an image or file.
At least that's the way I think it works, I could be wrong.

It's best to archive files in multiple formats, since all storage media available today is not guaranteed for archival use. There is a problem with any magnetic media in that it will eventually degrade and data will be lost. CD's are better but won't last forever. DVD's have the same problem, eventually you'll lose data. And flash memory, I really don't trust for longevity. Best way is to make multiple CD's or DVD's of your images and that'll at least guarantee that if one dies on you, maybe the other will be in better shape.

THANKS VERY MUCH

EVERYONE, THANKS so much for the responses, I now have faith that the pictures can and will be retreived(sp?).

I know that for some it may not seem like something to get all upset about, and probably if this would have happened some 20+ years ago I wouldn't have given it a second thought but when age overtakes you the simple things in life become much, much more valuable.

Thanks again, I do appreciate!

Jerry

STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER!!!

Until you recover the files, you may be erasing the deleted images just by surfing the internet or checking email. Download this program http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html and install/run it. Yes I just told you not to use the internet but you have no other choice unless you have spare PC. If it was on removeable media, use this one http://www.snapfiles.com/get/zaimagerecovery.html

Try to do all of your computer work off of this machine in question until the files are recovered. What OS is it?
