I hope I am not in the wrong area for this. A buddy has an 86 Regal Limited with the turbo package. It is mostly all origonal with 87K miles. Someone has put a chip in it, it is a Kenny Bell 9006 program chip.
The car seemed to not be idling correctly and they put a code scanner on it and it popped a code saying the computer was bad. They pulled it out and it has evidence of water damage. They have a price from a local parts place (Carquest) for a replacement computer for $80. He called me to find out if he would need another chip for the replacement computer or not. I am an electronics person, and I figure that the chip itself is probable good, but figured that I would check with the experts directly.
Yes, it could be that chip that may be giving some idling problems, but there is a lot more than just that chip in there. Would it be safe enough to put that chip in another computer?
Also, where can we get some info on this particular chip? What kind of improvements does it provide?
Thanks all in advance,
Mike
