$1000 was the going rate up here in CT about 8 years ago.

Don't know now since they let lawyers advertise now. :D

See if you can get a package deal for the $1000 review the agreement and incorporate.

If not perhaps don't incorporate and check on some sort of umbrella insurance policy for a proprietorship. :)

And yes hire the 'liar' for the business agreement.

A GF of mine is self employed and she went through her accountant and it cost her around $300 so I may be onto something with this...

If it is an invention of yours, you need a patent. A trademark protects a name, and a copyright protects an artistic expression, or literary work. If I were you I would talk to an attorney to find out what you need to havedrawn up to CYA. A little $$ now might save you alot of $$$$$$$$$ later.
Good luck with the venture, it does sound like a positive move towards the future, and you are being smart by thinking of protecting yourself this day and age.

My boss incorperated last year. His accountant took care of it. From what I saw it's not a big deal, just paperwork. One of the guys I work with used to have a carpet cleaning business and he said he did it himself for just the cost of the paperwork at the city hall. He's not the brightest bulb in the lot either. I would go to you city hall and ask about getting a tax ID # and incorporating. It will only cost you your time.
