Connection Speed Tests

Hey Jim -

Went back and did the Tweak test, plus I changed my RWIN from 8760 to 32120 using DRTCP. First time playing with this stuff.

Here are the results I got from the speed test now - seems like a significant improvement. Would you recommend raising RWIN more?

AFTER Raising RWIN:
2004-01-09 22:17:31 EST: 5494 / 613
Your download speed : 5494285 bps, or 5494 kbps.
A 670.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 613496 bps, or 613 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

BEFORE raising RWIN:
Your download speed : 3976256 bps, or 3976 kbps.
A 485.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 617283 bps, or 617 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

Thanks for the help - this stuff is pretty cool! Learn something new every day....

Getting faster! Dude this thing is flying now. Seems noticeably fast in terms of loading up web pages. Holy crap.

It's almost as addictive as modding my TR :)

Cool! I need to play with my XP machines. I recently moved from Win98 machines to XP machines and they're not tweaked. As far as the optimal RWIN, you just have to mess around with it. Bring it up until your download speed slows down (like turning the boost up until it knocks ;). Shawn seems to have done more experimenting than I have - try his numbers.

If I could get cable here, I would go back to it in a second. Road Runner was much faster than the Bellsouth dsl I have now. A lot of it depends on the area you live, I would ask around YOUR area to find out whats best there.

I could swear that last time we did a thread like this it was a lot faster. Maybe I'm just wishing. Similar results to yours:

your
download «1239 kbps

your
upload «219 kbps

Anyone here gotten that broadband offered over direct tv dish?

I was thinking the same thing. I need to tweak my connection a bit for sure.

After raising RWIN to about 38000 from the default setting of 17500, I went from 1509 mb/sec to 1955 mb/sec. Cool!

Any other tips or tweaks to help optimize a cable modem setup? Raising RWIN was a very noticeable increase in speed.

I have all of your upload speeds -spanked- ! ;)

Your download speed : 52939 bps, or 52 kbps.
A 6.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 3339827 bps, or 3339 kbps.

I'm at work, it's some sort of shared t3 or something. I guess we're getting packeted or some idiot is downloading a ****pile of movies or something eating up the downstream. I'll post the results from the TW cable modem when I get home.
