Anyone have any ideas on what to use to get the slime off the inside of my brand new coolant overflow tank? After using RMI I have this nasty residue , I tried using a degreaser with no luck I need something I can swish around in there to clean it up . Thanks

I'm not sure, that RMI stuff is nasty. Even after shaking it for 5 minutes I went to pour some into my freshly filled radiator for the summer and got a big glob of snot in there. Probably clogs up the system more than the crud it claims to eliminate.

Yeah before RMI I could use the sprayer on the sink and clean it real good not this stuff:eek:

I get the same stuff...but it means RMI is working...I take some paper towel...brake/parts cleaner and a small engine brush...the kind you use to clean out oil passages on a machined block...spray some cleaner into the overflow...stuff a paper towel in there then use the brush to move the towel around in there and basically scrub the inside...you can bend the brush to get into corners...rinse with water...repeat if necessary...

I removed the tank from the car and swished some muratic (pool) acid around for a few minutes and rinsed several times. Then I did the towel and brush action on the inside and it looks like new.

It is not the RMI that is nasty, it is the crud that has accumulated inside your block for 22 years that is nasty.:)

RMI is the only additive that cleans your radiator, and cooling system insides, while it provides protection. If you get "globs" of stuff in your radiator, you are NOT flushing your system at proper intervals.

When cleaning the cooling system, RMI keeps the crud in suspension. It can only hold so much, and then in drops out of solution. The recommended practice is to change the solution AND add new RMI after 6 months.

In a badly maintained system, it may take 4 or 5 flushes every 500 miles or so to get back to normal.

Thanks guys, I have a case of RMI to go through so it should be clean in a year or so . I change it every 4 months I will try those cleaning tips.;)
