I have been reading for years on the Buick sites how a FMIC will cause your car to Run hot/overheat.
Recently, I scooped up a used ESP FMIC off of EBay for a deal and slapped it on the 87 GN. This is not a huge FMIC.
After the purchase I had mixed emotions on the gain due to the motor possibly running hotter and if I should even put it on. I knew that I could turn and sell it and get what I had in it out and just do the Dutt neck mod and keep my stock IC as the summer heat in the south is hell. Slapped her in anyways and LOVE IT.
At the same time I puchased the IC I grabbed the radiator box in kit from Brian Weavy @ G Body parts since mine was ripped out years ago.
My current set up is a 87 Buick Regal 307 copper/brass radiator (been on a sick budget for the last 4 years reason for 307 radiator), oil cooler looped, ramchargers fans w/Casper hotwire kit, ext trans cooler & 160 t-stat, and a mix of 20% antifeeze and the rest Distilled water. (I know try the Fbody and RMI, yadda yadda)
My findings were in the south Mississippi summer heat 98% hum in 96 degree weather, Stop and Go traffic w/ the A/C on.
My temps before the FMIC would venture up in to the 198-203 in the same situation.
The temps after the install were actually a little lower than before in the same conditions.
I believe the box in kit helped dramatically but, I never figured that the car would run cooler with the FMIC.
Now for the numbers.....the car ran 192 degrees while idling with just a creep for movement in bumper to bumper with the A/C ON. It was a great time to test the car as we had Cruisin' the Coast here and there was over 4 thousand performance cars, street rods, etc around the area for the week long event and traffic was hectic and slow moving.
Once moving at 200 yards I could see the temps start to drop rapidly, and stayed around 175 in moderate traffic w/ the A/C on and pounding the car back to back when cleared traffic and a race would present itself  .
Just wanted to do a write up as the addition of a FMIC. Oil temps are a concern and that will be addressed with a remote cooler or a better radiator, change.
As far as performance goes the ESP FMIC...The boost spools faster (car is a 10psi and rising where the stock would just getting to 5psi), flows way more air car gained almost 6 psi from the change and of course it pulls harder and the same boost as the stocker. We will see what the 1/4 tells I hope a couple of MPH.
Just my findings with my setup.......Critique away O' Critical Buick Brethren
LOL   .
