My fans weren't coming on. Replaced the temperature sensor on the front of the intake and all is well again. This one sits vertical with a single green wire going to it. Takes a 13/16" socket. An open end wrench won't grab it. Had to put the socket on it first, then put the extenstion on the socket as it wasn't a straight shot. Maybe a 1/4" socket would fit better than a 3/8" . That thing was in TIGHT!

That's the high temp switch. It turns the fan(s) on when the temp goes to something just over 200°. Why isn't the ECM turning the fans on at the proper temps?

I don't know. I thought maybe something got changed in the chip so i sent it to Bob Bailey. He sent it back with "upgrades" but it didn't affect the fan function. Fans seem to work fine now. I wasn't too clear in my original post. The fans were coming on at around 215 degrees and then shutting off after about 30 seconds, when temp was still over 200. Fans now come on at a little under 180 degrees. I let it idle for a few minutes and then shut it off. Fans were still running. I think it is working correctly now.

Ecm should be commanding the low speed fan operation, and with most hotwire kits, it turns the fans on high from the get go with ecm control. See if the ECM is commanding fans on, and assuming it is, verify that the fans toggle on/off when told to do so. IF not you might have a bad low speed fan relay or other issue.

I'm fairly certain that my GM service manual lists the closing temp of that switch at 225 degrees. That switch and the a/c switch are the only things that trigger high speed fan to come on at all with stock config. I'm curious as to where you got a sub-200 degree switch for that port that's plug and play, I've been meaning to search for one. I'm building my own hotwire kit for my dual fans that allows high speed/low speed operation similar to stock config, but with a lower temp high speed switch in the intake.

This is the sensor http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...0712-p?searchTerm=radiator+cooling+fan+sensor

The Spal fans are wired together into a Racetronix harness. So they both come on when commanded to, I assume on low or high, whichever signal is sent to them. However I don't think they have different speeds, so since both fans come on together, I think this is considered the high speed. I have a front mount intercooler and never had an overheating problem with these fans (when they worked).
