by fresh I should say about 20,000 km's now. I'll look into it some more. But I've changed the oil and checked after the noise and nothing was present. I even cut the filter open it was all nice oil.

What Earl said: " flat tappet cams going south,".........................That will cause the low boost issue.
Set it up to run directly off the w/g spring, and see if it will rise above 10#.

I was on the highway today and I got it over 15. I'm starting to wonder about a clogged cat.

Its not Original its a high flow cat replaced. I'm not sure when it was replaced but that doesn't really help. And also I'd like to mention that it seems a lot of 3.1's and 3.8's seem to make these noises? It seems that once you start driving the car its stops and then when you fire it backup later on it starts. My 3.1 in my century dose the same thing. I drove the car on the highway today with no hiccups its hard to believe a cam is spun or bearings. And at the end of the day if the car breaks down I'll just start over next year and rebuild the bastard full roller maybe a little bigger cam and go all out as well as get the car painted. Can you say full restoration. The main issue with these cars is where to get the engines rebuilt it seems.
