my ds header was cracked nearly all the way around between 3 @ 5 and I had no problem building boost or getting enuf boost . however getting it welded totally eliminated the false knock I was getting when I would first get on it hard. I was blaming other things for the false knock but decided I had to get the header fixed anyway. totally cured that problem. the only performance gain I got was from not having knock retard.
