I cannont get that bolt off to save my life. I've tried jamming the flexplate and using over 2 feet wroth of pry bar on the bolt. No luck. I have also tried wedging the braker bar on the frame and hitting the starter. The starter can't even break it loose. I do not have access to air tools so anyone got any idea? I'm done with the springs so this is all thats holding me up.

Please help!

Sounds to me like your gonna have to find an impact wrench.... Its standard thread so counter-clockwise on the wrench should remove it.

I had the same problem you're descibing, and at the time I didn't have an impact wrench, but thats the only way I was able to remove mine.....

I actually used an electric impact gun......

I have a small compressor and impact but it doesn't make enough power to get it off. I tried an electric impact and that didn't help either.

I guess I'll have to wait till next weekend and get a big compressor and gun from a renta center.

Last time my impact wouldn't get that bolt off a 6 ft long cheater pipe on my breaker bar did the trick. The first try it twisted my extension and snapped it in two. Grabbed another extension and tried again and that time it worked.

I'm not going to break the crank doing this am I? I almost bent a 1/2 in breaker bar in half with a 3 foot extion earlier and it didn't budge. I can give it more if I'm sure it won't snap the crank? I'm worried because I am wedging the flexplate to the block. I have heard stories of how weak the cranks are so I'm paranoid.

Try using a cheap ($10) propane torch on the bolt for a little while and then lightly tap on the bolt head with a hammer. Let it sit for a while to cool a little (idea is to break the seal) and then hit it again with a ratchet (I use 1/2 of the long handle on my 3-ton jack as a breaker bar).

To hold the flexplate in place, I purchased a 4 or 5 foot long piece of metal braided cable from Home Depot that I run through a hole in the flexplate and secure the cable to a suspension component.

penetrating oil

Try spraying PB Blaster on and whack the end of your pull handle with a hammer while you pull on it. That sometimes works better than the cheater bar.

Here is another associated thought: If the bolt is that tight, there is a possibility that the harmonic balancer hub may have damage from the tightening. Check it over carefully for any cracks. Mine had a big obvious crack. It could have come apart at any time. I felt lucky to have found it. Good luck.

What are the odds of messing up the crank or bearing doing this? Anyone ever heard or had it happen.

I'm a worry wort:D

Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey ! ! !

I have a very small air compressor as well. An impact rated at 250 and a 1-1/8" impact socket. It took about 30 seconds or so to get mine off.

Impact is the best way to do it.
