Crank position sensor

Any one have any suggestions, or know the "correct" way to install a new crank position sensor. I was going to do it without pulling the harmonic balancer if possible. I want to know if there are any tricks or correct ways to make sure it is centered for all three tabs on the balancer so it doesn't get knicked by one of them because it is just a hair off?

There is no need to remove the balancer. Use a 15/16 socket on the alternator nut to move the balancer so that the reluctor ring is not in the way. Install the sensor in the bracket and get a helper to turn the balancer while you verify equal space on each side of the sensor groove. Use a matchbook or similar (cereal box, etc.) to use as a spacer to verify space on each side of the reluctor. Tighten down and have the helper continue to crank while you verify that the reluctor rings (3) do not touch the sensor.

Thanks Tin Man, that was what I was going to do, I figured two thin pieces of cardboard would help set the spacing to make sure the three tabs didn't cut into the sensor.

I have had better luck with moving the sensor by feel and then visually ensuring all three go thru with even space on both sides
