What is a original 3.8 turbo sg1 crate motor worth?
purchased in 1989 & never used.

not a whole lot, its old. i will start the bidding at 1.oo. :)

really know idea. i would say some where in the 2500.00 to 3000.oo range.

It also depends what you got there. Is it a longblock or shortblock?

Many years ago when they were available, I think they went around $1800 more or less.
If it is a TTA motor, the pistons are different from the GN motor;
due to the different heads that the TTA uses.

I'm still trying to figure out the difference between a SGI block and the stock 86/87 block  Looks identical, right down to the two bolt mains, and 8 bolt head holes.

They are identical, Dave. It's my understanding that it was a special run of buick 109 blocks to be used for factory/warranty replacements. I don't think there are any spec differences between the SG1 and the motors that were originally put in our 86/87 GNS.

The TTA motors also had a cross-drilled crank, per GM parts list on gnttype.org.

Joe Harrington has a SG1 block (& a TTA crank) currently for sale here on the board...asking $500 for the block, $300 for crank, if purchased together.

HTH :)

Stage I vs Stock

Per the Buick Power Source-
Better material, iron is alloyed to 42,000 yield, vs 35,000 stock
(the Power Source has confusing words here)
Thicker deck face
Material added to allow for extra head bolts- drilled on Stage II, not on Stage I.
Thicker center main bulkhead, drilled for four bolts only on Stage II
There's more, but basically, the Stage I block was used for the Stage II, with the added machining done.

The E-bay sale item appears to match the description of a "fitted block", rather then an engine assembly, either short or long, or maybe an "engine, less cmshft"??

Ormand,
You probably already know this but SG1 does NOT stand for a stage 1 engine. But thanks for the power source info anyway.
