If the Cruise light does not come on when you engage the button, check the torque converter unlock switch at the top of the brake pedal arm. It may just need to be adjusted. This switch must be depressed (just like the brake light switch) with the brakes off to complete the cruise circuit.

Mine would work sometimes and not at other times even if the cruise light was on - it was/is the wire on the turn signal lever. There is some of the wire exposed near the outter end - rear of the lever; that is where mine broke.

Mine also has a broke wire on the turn signal lever, I have new one coming as we speek.

There are other things that can be the problem, but the most common problem is the set button at the end of the turn signal stalk goes bad. The only fix is to replace it. Get a new one or one out of a Buick, Olds, or Chev in a bone yard. Several years and models are the same. If you have delay wipers, just find one the same.

Changing it is easy. The wire goes down the inside of the column to a plug in near the brake pedal. Tie a wire to the end with tape. Pull the turn signal stalk straight out. It just pulls out. Might take a little force but not much. Pull the wire up and out so that the wire you attached comes up with it. Now you can tie the new wire on and pull it back down through the column and plug it back in. If you don't tie that wire on I don't know how you would fish that wire down the inside of the column. Anyway it will only take a few minutes to do it that way. Good luck.

I just put my cruise switch in and It was fairly easy, I bought mine off eBay (aftermarket switch) for around $28.00.

You can also get them in the HELP! section, standard GM stalk but no chrome:( for around $40.

Not to hijack the thread, but I wanted to thank Jimmy. My cruise has not worked since I bought the car.(8 months) It has been a low priority on the to do list (I hate tracing electrical crap)
But I was driving to work today and pulled up on the break pedal while driving and low and behold the cruise worked! So I adjusted the switch when I got home and it is perfect! Thanks again. I didn't even realize the car had a cruise light too!

Move to the previous question...

What if the light does turn on when the set button is pressed. I can press the set button and/or the resume switch and the system activates and turns on the light. Yet the cruise definitly does not engage. I don't believe there is a vacuum leak but I could always check that again. Anyone have any ideas?

Usually it means the switch that makes contact with the brake pedal is not seated correctly.

If you get under the driver's kick panel, you will see it. Just push the switch toward the pedal so the button is pushed against the pedal -- you should hear it click into place. You will also see a vacuum line coming out of this switch -- check this as well. It is directly above the switch that controls the brake lights.
