decellerating problems

I just got my 84 today and when I drive it around (doesn't matter hot or cold) and slow down it doesn't want to downshift gears. For instance, if I'm in second gear and I start to slow down the car starts to idle really rough. The slower I go the worse it gets. To the point where it shakes like a manual trans and the brakes even freeze up like it's on the verge of stalling. Someone please give me a heads up on what's going on. Thanks

sounds like the clutch aint unlocking .need more info to elaborate on the brakes though .is this a transplanted motor in a car w/vaccum assisted power brakes ?is the tcc wired thry the brake switch ?whats it do if you shift to revers or neutral when it misbehaves?www.ckperformance.com

sounds like coverter clutch hanging, like Chris said. Most likely the tcc solenoid hanging, as for the brakes, if engine is stalling enough to lose vaccum. Check this article out.

When I disconnect the t/c lock up plug it doesn't do it.

Sounds like you need a tcc solenoid then.
