No kidding tooo much commercials! .. But I want that GNX.. cheers to the Savino Family in Longwood.. 15 minutes of fame!

Yeah that was great father and 2 sons all own TR's just wish it was an hour long instead of a half hour and wish they went in to detail all the mods and stuff you could do to them, but still was great taped it because god only knows when they would ever do another special on them. and all those cars were minted on that show.

the guy Mike Savino is the one who owns/runs turbobuickS.com. I have it on Video, CD and now on my DVR cable box so i am set :)

Oh wow cool had no idea yeah you are set lol lucky you. i must say i love when one of the guys said "it is a mix between getting shot out of a cannon, and taking off on a aircraft carrier"
i was like you aint kidding.

I was kinda disappointed. With all the commercials the whole thing was only like 15 minutes long and they showed the same clips over and over again - the guy driving the GNX, the same 2 cars at the drag strip, and the Savinos. They spent most of what little time there was on the GNX which is cool but does not represent the majority of the TRs you see out there. They mixed in some stats on the hot air engines and the '86 engine (but not the '87) but there wasn't a whole lot of interesting content IMO. As they were discussing the '86 engine, the camera was panning around an '87 GN engine bay. They really glossed over the other Turbo Regals, too.

Maybe I'm too critical 'cause I know more about TRs than the average bear. If you didn't know much about them it was probably cool to watch. The episodes on Mopars and to a lesser extent the Super Duty Pontiacs were a lot more detailed and interesting to watch.

Could that have anything to do with the over-documentation surrounding classic Mopars, Chevs and Fords?

We are talking about some really obscure cars here... that no-one but us care about. And even half of the people who own Turbo Buicks don't understand them. So how can we expect the media to get it exact or cover all the bases we deem important?

And props to Mike @ TurboBuicks.com the great site in the land. :D

There's plenty of information to fill 15-minutes without showing the same clips over and over again. I just don't think they did the history of the car and its impact on the drag racing scene justice like they did with the Mopars. The mid-late 80s was a pretty interesting time for muscle and pony cars. They finally started getting fast again after a full decade of pigs from Detroit. Engine management got a lot more sophisticated across the manufacturers and the advent of mass produced port fuel injection (on the Buicks, Chevy/Pontiacs, and Fords) really woke up some otherwise mundane powerplants. The Mopar and Pontiac segments went a lot more into the cars' place in the overall automotive landscape of the time.

One chapter in Kirban's book, for example, would have provided enough tid bits to make it a lot more interesting and relevant. They could've at least talked to Cal Hartline a bit more to get more of a perspective on the drag racing scene. Given the time constraints I guess they couldn't delve into any of it very deep.

I guess I had unreasonably high expectations for the show after watching the Mopar and Pontiac Super Duty segments.

Other than pretty much making it look like the only '87 GN was the GNX, I was really appreciative to have ANYTHING to watch about the TR's. Yes, there was a world of information omitted, but every little bit is cool......and I thank them for the line,'The fastest accelerating coupe of all time'. Whenever you throw 'of all time' into a statement it makes it more authoritative! Weighing what I expected and what I got (which were pretty much identical) I would give it 7.5 out of 10 points.......think about it, anything at all that introduces these cars to the uninitiated is a good thing.

I agree, that is my fav line from that show

I thought it was a good representation of our cars after all it was only a half hour program....that GNX was sweet, I really want those side flares on my car now...

I had really thought that there would be much more discussion on this today. Hell, my buddy who lives all the way in Maine and drives a Saab emailed me today about the show. TRs rule, everything else is ****.

Oh yeah forget it i was so happy that finally there was something about our cars i mean this things are the best and there is nothing about them , any time i go to a swap meet i could never even find a damn model of the national i did find one once but i had to build the damn thing, didn't it was fun but still these cars are so rare and you never see nothing on them so for that i thank them.:D

I believe Mike Savinos' mom has a GN too.

What about Mr Cal Hartline looking all trimmed out in his firesuit. Sitting up straight and acting mature. Good thing they didnt know he was nekid underneath it.;) :D
