I am thinking of going with either the Edge Evolution or the new Bully Dog setup. I like the Bully Dog because of the tranny mods you can get. My 05 not 05.5 has about 60K and I just want a little extra power and better fuel economy. With Diesel at $4 a gallon I figure I will pay for it self shortly. I rather have something I can adjust and do not want a basic tow tune and differently not a extreme tune. Just a little extra umph:biggrin:

Any suggestions?

I like the BullyDog programmers... I'm going to take a guess that you have a Dodge, if so look in to the Smarty... I deal with TST for all my diesel performance parts... Here's a link to the stuff for the 05 Dodge's... Be careful, diesel power is addictive...lol...

Power Upgrades - Cummins - 2003-2007 Dodge Ram

I am not sure about the Bully Dog stuff for Dodges but I used to work on 2 modded Ford Powerstroke pick-ups. They took it to a local diesel tuner guy for mods but we did the regular maintenence, they would always talk about the upgrades and told many good tales. Funny how much HP can be freed from just the trans mods. My 02

LOTS of Bully Dog around here and they "claim" their pulling big #### with the Trans Mods.

I havent used it but rode in a DMAX last weekend and about crapped myself with the help it did:eek:

Plus they have great support from what I hear;)

Banks Power

I have a DMAX (2005) with the Banks Power PDA setup along with cold air and exhaust. The power increase is incredible. Went with Banks because of their reputation and customer service. They replaced the PDA a year after I had it when the screen froze up, didn't even have to pay shipping. (was probably my fault for leaving it in the truck all summer with the heat) The amount of data provided by the PDA is really nice, and I do not believe you can find better service. Just my $.02

The banks is a nice kit and it's pretty much fool proof, but you won't make as much power as some of the other programmers... Banks is known for having very safe, clean tunes, no smoke, but they still run decent... My buddy has an 04 3500 D-Max with 120,000 and it still runs great with the Banks kit, and he has it on speed loader most of the time...lol... I just did a BullyDog on my buddies Dodge landscaping truck, it has an easy dumper in the back, but when he hits it from a stop it burns the tires through 1st and half way through 2nd... It throws a bit of smoke, but it's also a pretty safe tune... The torque management will make a night and day difference, but it will also cut into the life of your trans... You have to figure out what you are looking for...
Ford 6.0's make stupid power and are very fast with just a programmer, but they never last long, they blow headgaskets constantly... You don't want to have to pay for that because the body has to be lifted off the frame, to get the heads off... The Ford 7.3's aren't as fast but they will hold up to ALOT of abuse...
Chevy's are great trucks, but the Allison trans doesn't like being pushed too hard... If you have an agressive tune that doesn't pull power during shifts, the trans will eventually go into limp mode... If it goes in to limp mode once, it'll start doing more and more frequently if you keep overpowering it...
So now that I wrote a dictionary, which truck do you have, and what do you really want it to do??? Burn the tires, smoke people out, or get better MPG...lol

I have 6 trucks (3 Dodge and 3 Fords) all of them have the EDGE on them and I love them all, very easy to install I don't know about customer service have never needed to call them.

It's hard to go wrong with any of them just remember DO NOT LET YOUR EGTs TOO HIGH if you keep that in mind you can do almost anything you want to with that Truck.

Shane has a Duramax

Thanks for the input guys! As Jay pointed out it is a Duramax:biggrin:

another for the edge....have no experience with bullydog....the edge controller/display is nice where you can monitor all the paramitors....

I know of some individuals that have the Edge products and they do work good.

I've got a 2000 Ford F250 extended cab 4x4 with the Power Stroke (from when they still had forged rods) and automatic, the add-ons that I've put on it improved the fuel milage by better than 2.5 mpg at 70-80 mph. If I can keep it around 70 it'll average almost 22 mpg. Also, the performance has picked up considerably. The set-up is rather mild, and includes a 4-bank chip with Bully Dog programing (stock,50,75,125), 4" intake with K&N and 4" exhaust from the turbo back with straight thru muffler, ATS 1.15 compressor housing on turbo, Suncoast converter with Transgo shift kit and Sonnax valve, and of course gauges. As far as performance numbers, it should be right around 425 HP and 900+ lb/ft at the back tires. It may not be as fast as a hopped up 6.0, D-max, or Cummins, but it is reliable and gets the job done.

As far as which is better, that is a toss up, there are several quality suppliers in the diesel performance market. Banks, Edge, Bully Dog, ATS, TS are what most of the locals are running.

As with any other performance automobile, keep an eye on the EGTs, BOOST, and tranny temps. Most of the time everything else will be take care of it's self.

Hahahahahahaha... You call that mild??? That's a badass set up right there... Did you ever run it???

Yes, it's been to the track, had to put a buddy back in his place, that thought he had something at 15.8 seconds. Time was nothing to brag about, can't find the time slip, seems like it ran 14.9 @ 92 mph. Should have left the line harder, however that's about a 7200 pound truck. I was lined up along side a smirking little kid in a late model Mustang, probably stock. Had him at the 1000' mark, then he came around me, wiped that smile off his face.

Yes, it's a mild set-up. There is a local that has a Dodge running 10 teens, and well over 900 HP on the dyno. That thing is sick, barking all four slicks when it hits second. He's running a built and lightened 5.9 with twin turbos, NOS, propane, and who knows what else.

If you buy a reprogramer and you have a problem the dealer can read how many times it has been reflashed, and can cause a warranty problem. On a banks or a edge it goes in line with the factory computer and can be removed with out knowing I had a 03 chevy with the edge and know have an 08 and the with the edge. I work on trucks all day for a gm dealer and they are geting tough on reprogram issues.

There ya go... PPE is the programmer I was trying to remember... My buddy has that on his Duramax and it RIPS!!! He's somewhere in the 11's now, but I know he has a few other things done too...

I got an 03 Dmax. I have the Edge Juice with Attitude. Love it. The shift on the fly is the best. I have also used a Bully Dog programmer. That seemed to produce similar results as the Edge. I just like having the shift on the fly better than having a programmer.
I get 20mpg on the highway, hand calculated. I got an exhaust, intake and 285 tires. I would say I picked up about 2 mpg's when I put the Juice on.
You might already be on dieselplace.com, if not check it out. Great guys and lots of knowledge, kind of like here.

I've been running an EDGE EZ box along with some other mods on my Cummins for going on 8 years now. Best bang for the buck IMO unless your trying to rotate the earth which diesels CAN do with the right mods. Transmissions are usually the limiting factor when hopping up a diesel.
