Digital Dash - Gear Indicator

Kinda had a Twilight Zone moment today. I'm hoping that somebody can help me.

I was pulling my digital dash out of the car, and I noticed that there is no gear indicator on it. I looked in my owner's manual, and it shows a gear indicator at the bottom center of the digital dash.

Is the gear indicator a separate item, or are the PRND321 supposed to be painted right on the digital dash? Has anyone else seen a digital dash car with no gear indicator?

I've never seen a digital dash with a gear indicator...

My hardtop car has a digital dash and it doesn't have an indicator on the dash. The only cars that I have seen with them in the dash are the cars with column shift.

Right, The floor shift cars do not have the indicator on the cluster. The best cars to find a cluster for a column shift is 84-85 Riviera with the turbo engine. Regals and Rivieras share the same clusters. FYI early Regals(78-82) with a floor shifter had two shift indicators, one on the console and one on the gas gauge on the cluster. Eric Fisher
