Direct scan won't work with new laptop

Tried to use my new laptop, but all I get is Hardware not found. Looked at the properties for the printer and there was 40 attempts to printing. When DS tries to connect my loptop thinks it is communicating with a printer. I set a network connection up to connect directly with another computer, but that woudn't work. This attempt was using DS through XP in a DOS window. Please help if you know the answer.

A guy from best buy told me to do this.

go to direct scan file then press right clickon mouse

go down to properties then click on that (not right click)

then got to compatibillity,click then run in windows 98

I think that will work.Let me know if it does

is the "wax" all gone on the ECM???...it was a PITA to get it ALL of mine....make sure you scrape both sides of the board,,,then clean it with laquor thinner...real good!...

The first thing I would do is to boot to DOS on a floppy and run DS to see if it's a hardware issue. If you can communicate to ECM then work on the windows side. If it still doesn't work then make sure that you cleaned the edge connector properly

With W2K I could not get mine to work so I just boot to floppy.
