Do you use exhaust gaskets or sealant on the headers?

I'm installing my stock headers and need to know if I should use any hi-temp rtv or gaskets or nothing?

If the surfaces are perfectly flat you don't need sealer or gaskets. I use a 6" sharpening stone that are $3 at the hardware store to lap the surfaces flat. It takes longer than using a file, but when you are done, you know you won't have any sealing problems.

I tossed in a FelPro header gasket (1255, IIRC) on the DS after it was welded... I needed the car running ASAP... so there she be. No leaks... but I should retorque.

I also used some Permatex Copper Sealant around the X-over pipe "flanges" because I have the "egged" DS header donut, and I just didn't trust the PS. Let it cure after install for an hour or more.

HTH,

I agree with XXQuick6XX. Install FP1400's and never have any problems. IMO 2 metal mating surfaces require a gasket. I also goop the crossover pipe with Permatex Ultra Copper and let it cure at least overnight in warmer weather.
