I mean if it's not wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides, riots or nutball elections California would be just another state.

The loss of life is a tragedy without a doubt but c'mon. That state sucks up more federal tax $ than any other. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management) should set up it's headquarters out there. Why should the other 49 states pick up the rebuilding tab for residents' losses who should have home owners insurance like the rest of us?

Umm as California goes so goes the rest of the United States. The state of California has something like the 6th largest economy in the world so I would say it's pretty important to the rest of the country. Do I think people should build homes in areas that are prone to natural disaster no but it happens other places as well. I'm from the midwest originally and remember the floods in the early nineties where you wondered why in the hell would you build a house in a flood plain. People sometimes don't think about the possible danger when they do something like that.

You Know this might be the 1st & only time I am in agreement with TT/A1233 :D

We in New hampshire get like the smallest return for our tax dollars. Sure it is great that we are not $$ Junkies like Cali.
But we get the short end of the stick. In other words we be robbed.

Wasn't cali supposed to fall off into the ocean like 15 years ago?

California- the land of fruits and nuts

It's funny that you posted this, because I noticed something today. It seems like the wild fires near San Diego are getting more press and sympathy than the freakin' hurricane that recently hit the east coast. Why is that?

I don't have a bias against California or anything - some of my best friends live out there. But, it just seems like if something happens in California, the whole country is supposed to drop everything and hold their breath. If something happens anywhere else, then it's just business as usual. At least, that's the impression I get from watching the national news.

Maybe it's just me?

I have to raise the BS flag on this poll, the thread topic and the poll question are opposite so there is too much of a margin for error with a simple Yes/No poll:D :D

i am biased to cali cuz ummmmmmmmmmm, i live here and stuff. SOOOOOOO, no we don't deserve what we get for living here. i dont think anyone deserves this kinda stuff. think about, do you want loved ones lost in a fire, hurricane, tornado or whatever??? i don't think so.

and also, we're not ALL "fruits and nuts", well maybe a little nuts but not fruity!!!

As I type this the fires are about 5 miles away from me. I hope that if a natural disater hits your area some JERK from another state has more concern than you did FOR US.

This I must address.

ALL I did was post a question in a poll.

I will take a position regarding California and all their natural disasters in which OUR federal tax $ must be spent to pay everyone off out there. Last I knew, it was a homeowner's responsibility to have insurance. I feel it's COMPLETELY inappropriate to bail out Californians for their annual natural disasters.

Perhaps you can explain to us non-Californians why it's appropriate for the rest of the 49 states to rebuild burnt structures when the owners of those structures should have insurance.

Is it fair to the rest of us if owners of ANY property CHOOSE not to carry insurance and that property gets damaged or destroyed in a natural disaster, then use our tax dollars to rebuild?

Hell, if that's the case all of us in the midwest would choose not to have auto insurance and if something bad should befall our cars we'll have the citizens of California pay to have our cars fixed.

This discussion is about property, not life as stated in my first post.

You need to re-read the original post and associated replies. I guess you skipped over this "The loss of life is a tragedy without a doubt".

Let me explain the gist of the thread. It's whether or not the rest of the country should pay to rebuild your state after another natural disaster out there. The key word in this thread is INSURANCE.

Your views on California
I thought I would let you know how I really feel. Have you ever been through a natural disaster ? I am guessing not. If you have and still have your narrow views you need help. Dude people are dying here. People have lost everything they own. Is it their fault that some psycho decides to set a fire ? I guess where ever you come from human suffering means nothing. I bet you are the last to stand up and help those in time of need. Feel free to email me at xxxxxx@thevine.net. You seem to be to chicken **** to list your email address

Right now I'm watching the 11pm news. A news brief just came on between commercials and the newscaster said "California on fire again. Yet people still build in the fire zone. More on this later". See what I'm getting at yet?

I've seen you post some ridiculous garbage on here before, but this one takes the cake. You sir are an idiot. It's hard to imagine such a statement coming from someone in law enforcement that is sworn to protect and serve. The next time the Red Wings fans are rioting and you get a brick upside the head don't come crying to us for sympathy. Then again with your assanine statements it sounds like some perp has already been upside your head a few times. I'm done with you. Flame away.

I doubt CA is getting any "bailout"....FEMA is there, sure, but do you really think any home with a mortgage on it (and 90% have one) has no insurance?

you are WAAY out of line with this crap!

and, yes, I do care what happens to CA and so should you........

25 year old punk kid here....

as Cali goes so goes the rest of the united states. cali has a trickle down effect. as cali improves the nations woes will slowly go away. they seem to set the bar for the economic standing of the other 49 states.

Apparently everyone's straying off topic and getting emotional and personal.

Refocus on whether or not it's fair or not to use federal funds to rebuild...plain and simple...geezus.

Since the Red Wings have been brought up compare the riots and damage done during such melees to Cali's ordeal. Would it be fair to the state of Oregon and pay to rebuild Detroit?...I think not. Is there a difference?

I still have hope that emotions can keep out of this thread and stay on topic....

in light of current events, this thread needs to disappear and maybe the person that started it!

also, apparently the person that started this thread cannot read....Insurance will rebuild CA, not your "tax dollars"

BTW, CA pays more Fed tax $$ than any other state (or 10)

Hey Phil,

Hope you all are doing ok up there. Hope to meet you at a show sometime.
