Does anyone else think the stock steering wheel is too big?

I have been driving my car lately and love the way it handles now.
A big complaint of mine is that the stock steering wheel feels like it is huge and seems to slow down the steering response. Have any of you guys installed a smaller steering wheel? Btw, I am more into handling than drag racing.

Does it handle better when you steer with your hands on the crossbars in the wheel? If so, then pop one on. If not, you might want to look at a high-ratio steering box. I heard Monte SS' had a faster ratio.

I already looked into steering boxes. The Monte SS and 442's share the same steering box.
The only box that is truly quicker the the XH coded box from an 85-92 F body that originally had 16 inch wheels.
The stock G body box is fast enough. My dad's Monte SS seems easier to throw around since the steering wheel is smaller.

I've got a 13" GrantGT steering wheel on the car. I've had it on for years now, love it. I took the steering wheel insert out of the T wheel and ground it down a little bit and put it in the center of the Grant wheel too. Looks awesome.

I have a Momo Monte Carlo model steering wheel that I had in my Mustang. It is such a comfortable wheel and is also the perfect size for me. I had bought an adapter to put it in the Corvair, but it looks like its going into the GN :D

Hey Lee, I've had a GRANT 13.5" steering wheel on my SS for a year now, and I will be switching to the MOMO "Monte Carlo" wheel, the GRANT wheel is too uncomfortable, since they designed it with an OBLIQUE design, and without sufficient padding. The MOMO Monte Carlo looks like it has the signature MOMO performance padding on it. I saw one with the correct G-BODY adapter for $170 complete. Ii will be getting that soon. How do you like the MOMO? I know it is a fine product.

The Momo is definitely top quality. I had it in the Mustang for over 4 years and removed it before I sold it because the guy I sold it to didnt like it (his loss! LOL)
The rim is really thick and is contoured for your hands. I love it.
I have seen them for about $110 in some of the sport compact magazines. Either check out the magazines or Ebay. They are all over the place. The adapter hub is about $35

All the GM lines had "sport" wheels, and they were not all the same size. I would think that you could find a wheel off of another Buick (Skyhawk?) or an Olds or Pontiac equivalent that would bolt in, would have the same leather wrap, and would (maybe) be cheaper than a Momo or Cerillo. Some of them had four spokes, some had three, maybe somebody else knows the specifics. I know that Olds Starfires had smaller ones, with four spokes, and Cutlasses, I believe, had three spokes, but they may have been the same size as the GN. I don't feel like the one in my T is too big, but I don't drive it in autocrosses, or anything that involves lots of steering movement. (Prob'ly because the suspension is still stock, except for tires and shocks.)

I am with Lee.

Yep it is huge.

But, until I find a better wheel that serves the same purposes as the application you have selected (great minds)... I'll stick with it.

In my SS, like SSYNERGY, I stuck one of those cheapie Grant wheels. I have long legs and it made it a pain to get in and out of my old '83 MC sans tilt column. So on went the mini-wheel. That car was later junked and the wheel has lived nicely at home in the SS. Saved a few pounds too! :D

As for the boxes, I am going to manual boxes in both of my cars. Weight purposes in the SS and steering input in the Turbo T (and weight too).
I think that a 14-15" wheel will serve me well.

Somebody got a link to that MOMO wheel dub'd "Monte Carlo" kicking around. I am lazy and getting ready for a wedding ;)

Steering wheel TOO BIG??

I've never found that to be true.... Unless the GF is w/ me..;) ;) ;)

The GN has the quick ratio steering box just like the Monte. I absolutely hate small steering wheels. I've never had a problem controlling the GN when I used to drive it sideways more than straight. I like the extra leverage and precision of the big wheel and IMO the small wheels look cheap.
