I recently purchased a 1986 GN. The downpipe hits the upper a-arm on bumps but the exhaust is almost hitting the transmission crossmember. No matter which way I go it will hit something. It has 3 inch exhaust and mufflers. Would it hurt to dimple it where it hits the crossmember. I enclosed a pic to see if anyone kniws what size it is because it may be a few days before I can make it to my shop

Have you checked your motor mounts?? They tend to cause Downpipe and exhaust issues when they are worn out .

The exhaust pipe is barely hitting the transmission cross-member too. There is nowhere for it to go. I will check the mounts this weekend.

Body mounts sagging.....new mounts will add 1/2 to 3/4 more room in these areas....done & works!
