Downpipe

OK. I have to admit it. I don't know what the downpipe is, what the stock size is and what it should be upgraded to.?

The downpipe is connected after the turbo and before the converter. Stock for our cars is either 2" or 2¼". Going to a 2½" pipe with smooth bends would be great, but nobody sells them pre-made and I haven't figured out what to do to remove the old one (short of lifting the engine.)

Which is the pipe that comes off the Turbo towards the front of the car, then goes down past the headers with a smaller pipe connected to the headers?

That would be the up-pipe. It is what provides the exhaust to power the turbo.

Is this ever modified and /or enlarged?

The up-pipe comes in a 2.5" inch for the 84-85 cars. But no one has proved going to a larger one can make improvement. I do not know of anyone who has went to a larger one on our carbed cars.
