Drive Shaft

Does anybody know the length the drive shaft needs to be for the t400 with a ford 9" application?

It depends on what yoke you have on the rearend. I have a moser forged yoke and use a 52" c to c driveshaft. It's actually for sale if you are interested. I need a shorter one for my t56 and would prefer not to cut this one down.

Is it chromoly?

Yes, Mark Williams 3.5" chromoly with solid 1350 joints. No trans yoke, but a spicer forged is enough for just about anything.
