I have a front mount intercooler on the front and am having problems cooling the beast. Just replaced the radiator with a new replacement. The car was running at around 200 degrees on the freeway and would not cool in town at all. The new radiator allows it to run at 180 degrees on the freeway at 75 mph. And it gets up to 195 in town. I have 160 t-stat and belt driven fan yet. I want to upgrade to a electric fan. Is the Ramcharger dual fan setup a good choice for my application. How much CFM will I need to cool the beast in town.....I think the ramcharger unit is like 2300 CFM. I just want to run it on a switch. And any ideas on how to hold the radiator in place without the fan shroud to hold it. I want something that looks nice maybe crome. Does anyone know of anybody caring a product that might work?
Oh by the way the orginal radiator was all rotted out.........missing fins and everything....nasty.

TIA..................Nick

i have a spearco and my car never gets over 180º.

-modine v8 radiator(used v8 holdown from junkyard)
-spal dual fans
-160º thermostat
-b&m stacked plate tranny cooler

you can get the bigger v8 radiator(quite a bit wider than the stocker)new at autozone for ~$125.the ramchargers fans should work just fine,i've seen them before they're pretty nice.i use the 87 ecm to switch my fan on and off, that's the best way.you can also use one of those fan thermostat kits.

Nick, I took some picks of my setup. I will email them to you tomorrow. It shows how it is just held on using factory 87 stuff, such as the upper radiator hold down the radiator itself. IMHO the fit is perfect. I run a PTS trans cooler.

Thank you everyone for the replys. And hello to my fellow chessehead buddy! Well my friend is a welder and he went into work the other night and customized some hold downs for me so those should work out just fine. They look nice too. I am actually painting them right now. I just bought the v6 replacement radiator for the car and it has helped alot. The car is running at 180 on the highway but in town sux. It gets in the 190's. I am probably going to go with the Ramcharger setup it seems very reasonable. I see you guys all got trany coolers. I know this prolongs the life of the tranny does it bring the radiator temps down too? Stupid question probably!! Which type of tranny cooler is best for my setup. Should i go with one that mounts in the front by the radiator or with one that goes some where on the frame? If i put one in front of the radiator is it going to kill my cooling system even more? One more question will I be able to notice any power difference with the belt driven fan gone? TIA Nick

You won't be able to feel it in the seat. But every little bit helps. It adds up all together. Where is Beaver Dam?
The bigger the tranny cooler the better. You can mount it in front of your radiator for the best cooling. If you get the ramchargers fan. It shoud cool to at least 160. I heard alot of happy ppl that liked it.

Beaver Dam is about 30 miles from Madison going toward Fond du Lac. If that helps. Were is Sceboygan(sorry for spelling)? Do you go to the track much? I went and checked out the great lakes track not to bad. But that track is like 1 hour and 45 minutes away. Didnt run my car just checked it all out. Well I just ordered the ramchargers fan and I am going to call on a tranny cooler for the beast too. How should I mount that fan do you guys like the zip tie mounting things that summit carrys....I know i used them for a tranny cooler on a camaro i use to have. I also have another question I cant get more then 15lbs of boost with my Ultrachip thumbwheel from postons.......i was running a Kenne Bell chip that ran 17lbs of boost......i think it is the Ultimate chip or something...........i adjusted the wastegate and the boost still hasnt changed......is the Kenne Bell chip anyworse? I will try some more adjusting but i even put the chip on setting 7 yesterday and no knock no nothing she ran just fine.....it hit 15lbs. and that was it..could the chip be stuck on a setting or something.I even shortened the wastegate........i hope that was the right way.......and still 15lbs........i have a high flow convertor on it right now not sure how old it is with 2.5 kenne bell exhaust. I might just go back to the Kenne Bell for know. sorry for the long post i like to ramble..........TIA 1QUICK85

Sheboygan is halfway in between milwuakee and green bay. I have been at union grove several times and it takes me about an 1 1/2 to get there.

Ya, I place on going up to Union Grove sometime again to run my car but i have a lot of kinks to work out and out of basic stuff that needs to get done........So hopefully before summer over I will be ready I got parts sitting here to be put on.....but the pile of parts is getting smaller until the electric fan comes and tranny cooler and ordered a race pipe too........jes.........i cant quit speeding money on GN.......:D Talk to you all later and thanks again!!!
