DVD RW +/-...anyone know this stuff?

My mom just bought a new computer that has a DVD RW +/- drive. The salesman told her that we need to find out whether the DVD players in the house use the + or - format so that they would play the burned DVD's. That sound right?
How can I find out what the DVD players we have will play and what I need to burn?
Or did I misunderstand him?

just buy a single DVD + and a single DVD - and see which one works, thats how i did it.

A salesman told me to look on the DVD drive tray. It should have DVD+ or DVD- Rewritable on the tray. He said Sony DVD recorders can use both.

Most DVD players will read the -/+ R (not RW) format even if the player doesn't show the format being supported in the manual.

i have had no problems with either of them on my players, but i have a +R drive so i use blank +R's
