The vacuum block is a common area and it only produces manifold vacuum. One end connects between the vacuum block (via steel line and vacuum hose) and the other end goes to the EGR valve. There is a check valve attached between the hose returning to the vacuum block. This does not allow boost to feed back to the EGR valve. The computer controls the ground signal of the solenoid (normally open). The solenoid vent closes when the computer commands ground to the solenoid and the EGR valve begins to open in the presence of manifold vacuum.
