EGT or Pyrometer

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge with an EGT and/or Pyrometer guage. Can someone tell me the difference between the two, or do they essentially do the same job? Is one better than the other?

These two things are one in the same. A pyrometer measures EGT. I have a recent thread on this topic if you're interested in reading more.
