I turn it on today to do some alky tuning and egt is fine. Then it starts to go up and down. I have the smc one and like it a lot. The probe was used when I got it though. Then it sticks at 75 and jumps to 960 then 1200.
Do they just stop working or do the # jump around or get frozen?

Thanks for any info
Chris

probe

I bought a VDO egt years ago and installed it and it never worked. I took it out when I installed my motor and just out of the blue I tried a new thermocouple yesterday and it is working.

Try this, take the thermocouple out and heat it over a torch or some open flame and watch your meter. It should climb and level out if you keep it in the same portion of the flame. If you move it around, you will get different readings.

I had the SMC one also and it was fine for a couple of years...when it started to go it would work fine while I was idling in the staging lanes and after I did my burnout...but when I would go to check the MAX reading after the run it displayed "OL"...did this several times so I chucked it and opted for the EGT probe that Jason Cramer sells...it screws into the O2 sensor bung...I relocated my O2 sensor to my downpipe

It seemed to work today

I wanted to go that way but I have a hole in my headder now. I seems like they tend go out different ways. If I get new headers its going in the o2 slot for sure.

Why wait till you get new headers...just get the hole welded up...that's what I did with my ATR headers...had the hole in there for the SMC probe...got that welded up and an O2 bung welded into my downpipe at the same time...

found the problem..

So it was stupid  The wire were crossed on the plug from getting twisted. works good.
