just lose the heat shield and put it opposite the 02 sensor....you can get at that area without taking the header off (with a 90* drill)

Thanks guys!

My heat sheild is mostly rusted off anyway..., it'd make sense to remove the eyesore.

My probe is a thread in design, which means that I'll have to have a bung welded on... so if I can get easy access for the welder... all the better. :)

I put mine on the driver side just below the header-crossover connection actually in the crossover pipe... I can send pics if you want.

My recommendation is to ditch that probe and get a better design.

Mostly, NOT ALWAYS, but most of the screw in probs of are a type that is very very slow to react.

The fastest reacting probes are the smaller ~ 1/8" diameter probes. (Usually clamp on, but not always)

If yours is the thicker probe, you probably wont like the results.

The bung type probes come in 1/8". I bought a 1/8" exposed tip probe which is similar to what most clamps-on use. Even so, I think it might be slow as well (I haven't installed it yet).

I have access to differeent sized probes at work, so someday soon, I hope to do some testing. Very fine wire probes can be used if they are run inside a peice of 1/8" tubing.

I hear you Dave... thanks for looking out for me! :)

Here is the probe I ordered...

it is a VERY and I mean VERY quick reacting probe from what I have seen. I did a fair bit of research and found this one to have a good reputation.

Well, the "Type K" probes are the fastest, so you should be OK.

I know this is REALLY old but....

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but I wanted to thank TurboDave for posting his pic. I just finished my EGT probe installation and the pic was a lifesaver. Here's mine (I'm embarassed by the crappy form-a-gasket job on the header, but it works):

I was able to cut the shield, drill the hole (with a 90-degree drill adapter) and install the probe without taking anything off but the turbo shield.

Thanks!

Jim
