When discussing EGT temps, does it matter where the EGT probe is set?? Location on downpipe / header etc. - how much can the temps vary due to probe placement?? Some say lean @ 1600 other lean @ 1800 - is 200 degree variance normal??

Thanks in advance

James

every car is different and probe placement will influence what you see....you have to find the optimum on your car.....for example, I run my car at 1495.......prolly a little fat, but safe...lots of guys run 1600

I had 1650 with alky. at my limit of 25psi. and 26* timing.

Probe is a westach and mounted 3.5" or so below the O2 bung in the uppipe. Only place I could drill it while it was still in the car.

Not sure if it would be hotter or cooler up another 3" but I would guess a bit hotter.

Mine is a about an inch from where the 02 sensor is. My car likes between 1600-1650*
