I am doing some grinding and have a tool that does not have variable speed.
Need to slow it down a bit .......
1 - How do I slow down the speed?
2 - Will this decrease the life of the tool?

PS:
This is an AWESOME grinder for "hogging".

I think a straight rheostat would cause a voltage drop. Not a good thing.
You would have to use an SCR circuit with it.

Ask Garyk1970. He may know a trick that I don't.

just a regular dimmer switch works fine....but sears does sell a foot operated speed controller.

Cool!
I searched the Sers site and am unable to find it.
Can you post a link for me? :frown:

get a heavy duty large fan switch.....low,med,high

if dc,use a trolling motor controller...

You can not put an incandescent dimmer switch on a motor. You need to get a HD ceiling fan controller.

In order to slow down an AC motor, you have to adjust the Hz (frequency)
