I have a 86 with the ever troublesome electronic touch climate comtrol system. The indicator lights on the mode control blink constantly. I have replaced the head unit and the AC programmer with different units but still get the same error lights. I am getting about 16 vac athe programmer from the engine but only get about 2-5 vac on the other side of the programmer, the sides that go to the different vac motor to switch doors. Any idea what I should be getting after the programmer?

Sorry im not really answering your question, but Im curious....does your always flash? Or only flash sometimes? Mine only flashes when its really cold outside....doesnt flash all the time, so I figured it was just because my heater core is disconnected.

It seems to always flash. I have only had the car since April and most of the time it has been with out engine or other realted down time. I did not notice the flashing over the summer as the AC compressor is frozen and I just drove with the window down and T-Top off.

I see....I always drive with my windows down and moonroof open in the summer...I hate using the AC. Anyways....if no one else chimes in to help...you might wanna try searching the board for other posts about the climate control if you havnt already, I know there were some others posted a while ago. Good luck.

I will fax you the info that we talked about, but it is 38 pages in length. I hope you have a lot of paper in the fax machine!

Thanks

quick question

i have the ECC option on my 86, and it is Canadian (metric). one of the lights does not work but everything else seems to be fine. is there any way to fix this without having to replace the entire head unit? what kind of lights did they use on these? after searching through threads on the ECCs, it sounds like they are a b*tch to work with. :(

thanks for any advice

I replaced my head unit but some of those lights did not work either. No idea how you would go about replacing a light. Prob have to solder around in there.

The flashing light probably indicates a problem in the system (not usually the head unit).

When mine did that, the problem was a faulty motor on the blend door (tucked up in behind the glove box). When it died I had a flashing light on the head unit and my A/C all came out the floor vents.

A blinking temp light means there is a fault within the system. Usually it is the blend door servo that controls the heat/cool door. The servo for that door has a potentiometer in it that tells the control unit at what postion the door is. If it is open or does not change resistance because the motor is bad in it. The control unit will shut off power to that servo and blink the light in error. If the Fan speed light(s) is flashing, then the fan speed controller is bad or has an issue. hope this helps! Any questions, let me know...
