I heard about someone that was having a carpet installed by Empire and the installer had to leave because he was either on work release or recently paroled. This made the person a little nervouse. It wouldn't bother me. The way I figure is they have more to lose if they screw up, of course, I wouldn't leave jewelry lying around, but I wouldn't do that anyways.
home depot installers are not usually too good, but they do background checks on them.....the reason i say they are not usually too good is..why would some awesome installer deal with these great offers from home depot

1)you get paid lees than most all other stores pay..2)your paycheck is paid up to 3 weeks in the rear..3)if you have a problem on the job or need more money for unseen problems that the sales guy missed, you have to call a 1-800 number and talk to someone that dont want to pay you and who talks down to you,in most cases..most of the best installers always want paid top dollar for top quality work,as that is the only work they know how to do..they dont like to waste time on a automated line, getting no-where..and they dont want to have money owed to far in the rear incase they decide to leave because in most cases they dont get it all...home depot sells alot of flooring, here in sarasota their is about 13-25 jobs a day going out of their installation company, the bad thing is i only know 5 awesome installers and can gaurantee their is not 15 in any town, they may say they are the best or real good, but the facts are not many people really do every job to their best, plain and simple...i live in sarasota,florida..call any big name store and ask them about me/Tom Burnette, most have heard of me and say i have a great reputation for perfection..they will say i charge alot, but you wont have problems..but now that i sell all flooring i can roll my hi priced labor in the bill and not mark up the carpet soo much and send them a awesome installer in a awesome looking van, clean cut, with a hi quality pad and a hi quality carpet for the same price as the big boys or cheaper,as i have a mobile store,no overhead=lower prices...point is shop around, dont use empire, compare with, but dont use home depot..find a store that is clean and nice ask for the best installer no matter how long it takes to get it in..and see if they can let you talk to some of the installers prior customers,i offer that to all my new customers....i call customers back,i show up on time,i call if im going to be even 10 minutes late,i call before going to the job,i dont smoke in or around the house(i dont smoke, this is what all my installers agree to)my van is kept clean,i vacuum and sweep the driveway,i try to act happy even tho im busting my butt..if you are a awesome installer and are paid well these and more qualitys come natural...i have heard some horror stories of getting carpet or flooring put in,they should write a book or make a movie because some are toooo funny...
